Our Veterinarians

Dr. Brown

Dr. Gary Brown, DVM

Dr. Brown, an East Tennessee native (where he and his family call home), is the founder of Dandridge Animal Hospital.

He went to college at Auburn University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in molecular and microbiology, and then went on to obtain his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2002.

He then returned to his beloved mountains and met his wife, Wendi. In 2006, Dr. Brown was commissioned into the Army Reserves, where he embarked on a new adventure as a veterinarian for the Army. After the birth of his second child in 2008, Dr. Brown went on active duty and was stationed at Fort Drum, New York. He was the officer in charge of the Veterinary Treatment Facility, as well as taking care of the Military Working Dogs and managing all the food inspection for the post.

His next duty station was Guam for the next 2.5 years, where he managed the VTF, cared for the MWDs, and managed all the food inspections for Naval Base Guam. Island life was so much fun, but with army life, it was all only for a season.

In 2011, Dr. Brown was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. He was a field veterinarian, where he was in charge of six veterinary teams. They trained to deploy for emergency management and combat support teams.

After the birth of his third baby, he left active duty and returned to the reserves, bringing his family back home. During this time, he was deployed to Djibouti, Africa, in continued support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Horn of Africa. He worked with the locals and helped them care for their goats & camels, taught them how to care for honeybees, as well as other humanitarian efforts.

In 2019, Dr. Brown earned the rank of Lt. Colonel and served as a Public Health Veterinarian in Ft Gordon, GA.

After working in and around the 5 Rivers area for the past 19 years and in the Army for the past 16 years, Dr. Brown decided to take a leap of faith and make his dream of owning his own hospital come true, and, in May of 2020, Dr. Brown and the staff of Dandridge Animal Hospital opened their doors.
